A thoughtful evaluation of thinning hair, with room to discuss the cause, the options, and whether PRP belongs in your plan.
WITH TATIANA VALDERRAMA, APN-BCLet’s talk about hair restoration / prp
Hair loss can have several causes, and the pattern alone does not tell the whole story. Your history, scalp evaluation, medications, recent health changes, and sometimes testing help guide the next step. Identifying the cause matters before selecting a procedure. [1]
Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is prepared from a sample of your own blood and injected into selected scalp areas. It may be considered for some types of hair loss. Response varies, and a series of treatments or maintenance may be discussed. [1]
Your treatment, explained
PRP begins with a blood sample. The sample is processed in a centrifuge to separate a platelet-rich portion, which is then used for injections into the scalp. Because the treatment uses your own blood, it involves both a blood draw and an injection procedure. It is not the same as a hair transplant. [2]
Before scheduling, ask about comfort measures, how long to allow for the visit, and the instructions for washing or styling your hair afterward. The process should be explained before you decide whether it fits your preferences.
Your treatment, explained
Bring older photographs if they help show a change in your part, hairline, or overall density. Note whether the change has been gradual or sudden and whether you have scalp discomfort, itching, or patches of hair loss. These details help direct the evaluation.
A PRP plan may involve a series followed by maintenance, but the schedule should reflect the diagnosis and response. Discuss how photographs or other observations will be used to assess progress. If the expected improvement is not developing, the next step is to reassess the plan, not automatically repeat it.
At your appointment
Bring the approximate onset, changes you have noticed, and any family history of thinning.
Share recent illness, medication changes, nutrition concerns, and previous hair-loss treatments.
Agree on how progress will be assessed and when the plan should be reconsidered.
Recovery and follow-up
Know what to expect before you book.
Hair changes take time to assess. Ask about the proposed treatment schedule, how progress will be documented, and what would indicate that the plan should change. A promised amount of regrowth is not a realistic starting point.
Suitability & safety
PRP involves a blood draw and injections, which can cause discomfort, bruising, bleeding, or infection. Discuss your medical history, bleeding concerns, medications, and whether another evaluation is needed before proceeding.

No. A diagnosis and individual assessment come first. Some causes require medical treatment or specialist evaluation.
Yes. Linea’s hair-restoration consultation is an opportunity to discuss thinning, regardless of gender.
A series and maintenance may be proposed. Ask for the full schedule and expected costs before starting.
Do not change prescribed treatment on your own. Bring a list of what you use so the options can be considered together.
No. PRP uses a processed portion of your blood for scalp injections. A hair transplant moves hair follicles and is a different procedure.
Older photos can help show when and where thinning became noticeable. Bring a list of products, prescriptions, supplements, and previous treatments as well.
